Cultivating Hope, Fostering Empowerment: The Journey of Two Sisters Developing the Rumah Asri Greenhouse with TIS Energy in Hilir Muara Village, Kotabaru
News 28 June 2026
Behind the Rumah Asri Greenhouse in Hilir Muara Village, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan, lies the inspiring story of two sisters, Ms. Sakka and Ms. Patimah, who have successfully transformed their passion for gardening into a source of income and become key figures in advancing community development in their village. Through the Community Development Program (PPM), supported by TIS Energy, the Production Sharing Contract (PSC) Contractor for the Sebuku Working Area, they now play an active role in developing hydroponic vegetable cultivation, while strengthening the economic opportunities of their community.
Their journey began when they learned about a program that provided seedlings and agricultural training, creating opportunities for local residents to develop farming skills and strengthen household food security independently. Beyond pursuing their interest in gardening, Ms. Sakka and Ms. Patimah also sought a space where they could interact with others, share experiences, and contribute more actively to their community.
With great enthusiasm, they joined the program and received chili and various vegetable seedlings, along with training in crop cultivation techniques. Their dedication and perseverance in caring for the plants yielded positive results, earning them the trust to help manage the Rumah Asri Greenhouse alongside the local POKDARLIS community group.
Today, Ms. Sakka and Ms. Patimah actively cultivate hydroponic vegetables such as pakcoy and lettuce, which are marketed to supermarkets and various retail outlets across Kotabaru. For them, Rumah Asri is more than just an additional source of income—it is also a place to learn, grow, and strengthen bonds within the community.
“We are grateful to be part of Rumah Asri. In addition to gaining knowledge and additional income, we also have a place where we can gather and learn together. Here, we always uphold the spirit of the local saying, 'Ayo Sebrataan, Seberakataan,' which encourages us to stay united and work together. It is this spirit of togetherness that continues to help us grow as a community.” said Ms. Sakka and Ms. Patimah.
The story of Ms. Sakka and Ms. Patimah demonstrates how sustained support and community empowerment can create opportunities for people to grow, strengthen local livelihoods, and generate shared value for both communities and the surrounding environment. Through its Community Development Program (PPM), TIS Energy continues to foster independent, productive, and empowered communities by strengthening local capacities and promoting the sustainable use of local resources.
