Behind Natural Gas Production, TIS Energy Upholds Stringent Safety and Environmental Standards
News 30 June 2026
In the upstream oil and gas industry, operational success is measured not only by the volume of energy produced but also by a company's ability to conduct its operations safely, reliably, and responsibly. As a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) contractor, TIS Energy places occupational safety and environmental protection at the forefront of every stage of its operations.
At its Blora Working Area, TIS Energy demonstrates this commitment through the consistent implementation of its Occupational Safety and Environmental Protection Management System (OHSE Management System), which encompasses risk management, regulatory compliance, and the cultivation of a strong safety culture involving all employees and business partners.
Throughout the production period at the RBG Block I Field, TIS Energy has continuously implemented a wide range of Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental Protection (OHSE) training programs, awareness campaigns, and competency development initiatives. These programs are designed to increase employees' awareness of potential hazards, strengthen compliance with safe work procedures, and enhance emergency preparedness across operational areas.
As part of its ongoing commitment to workforce competency development, TIS Energy also conducts various industry-specific training and certification programs, including certifications for Oil and Gas Chief Technical Officer and Deputy Chief Technical Officer (Katek/Wakatek), First Aider Certification, H₂S Safety Officer Certification, Fire Fighting Training, and Hazardous and Toxic Waste (B3 Waste) Management Responsible Person Certification.
Each certification plays a vital role in supporting safe operations. The Katek/Wakatek certification ensures that technical supervision of oil and gas operations is carried out in accordance with established safety standards. First Aider Certification equips personnel with the skills to provide immediate medical assistance during emergencies, while H₂S Safety Officer Certification and Fire Fighting Training strengthen workforce preparedness for potential hazards in production facilities. Meanwhile, the B3 Waste Management Responsible Person Certification reinforces the company's commitment to ensuring hazardous waste is managed safely, systematically, and in full compliance with applicable regulations.
In addition to strengthening workforce competency, TIS Energy conducts periodic environmental monitoring in accordance with government-approved environmental management documents. The monitoring covers ambient air quality, noise levels, water quality, and various other environmental parameters to ensure that operational activities consistently comply with applicable environmental quality standards.
Environmental monitoring has been carried out regularly since the pre-construction phase in 2021 and continues throughout the operational phase. Monitoring is conducted every six months at four designated monitoring locations surrounding the operational area. The results serve as the basis for continuous evaluation and improvement of the company's environmental management and operational performance.
As part of its commitment to transparency and accountability, the laboratory test results from these environmental monitoring activities are regularly shared with local communities through the respective Village Governments, particularly those of Pranten and Gubug Villages. This disclosure aims to provide assurance that TIS Energy's operations do not cause adverse environmental impacts, particularly those related to public health, and that all monitored environmental parameters remain within the national environmental quality standards established by the Government.
TIS Energy General Manager, Heri Suryanto, emphasized that occupational safety is a fundamental value that is inseparable from the company's operations.
"Energy production must go hand in hand with our commitment to occupational safety, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance. Therefore, we continue to strengthen our personnel's competencies, implement rigorous operational standards, and conduct continuous evaluations to ensure that every operational activity is carried out safely and responsibly," he said.
Through the consistent implementation of its OHSE Management System, continuous workforce competency development, and ongoing environmental monitoring, TIS Energy remains committed to conducting operations that are safe, reliable, and sustainable while contributing to Indonesia's national energy security.
